13,959. Notkine, N. July 6. Superheaters, steam.-Steam is superheated by conducting it through narrow passages formed by longitudinal ribs in the annular space between two concentric tubes placed in the path of furnace gases, the inner tube being arranged so that it is traversed by a portion of the gases. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the tubes are placed between chambers a, b, the inner tubes d passing through them. Partitions e, f compel the steam to take a circuitous course through the tubes, as indicated. The form shown in Fig. 4 is adapted to be placed in fire-tubes l. The entrance to the lower passages is closed by a plate k, as shown in Fig. 7, and the steam, passing along the upper passages, is allowed to pass back towards the outlet pipe b<1> by breaking away the ribs at the end of the tubes. The annular space between the tubes is closed by a ring x.
