Abstract

13,116. Dawson, A. T., and Buckham, G. T. June 24. Ordnance breech mechanism.-Relates to firing- mechanism of the kind described in Specification No. 19,148, A.D. 1904. In the pistol grip, Fig. 7, the spindle a carries a ratchet plate a<4>, preferably with a single notch, which is engaged by a pawl a<6>, pressed into engagement by a spring a<7>. The pawl is rocked, and released, by a slip-catch a<10>, pivoted to the sliding trigger a<3>. The rotation of the spindle a by the clock-spring A<1> causes the nut a<5>, the lugs as on which straddle the pawl a<6>, to unscrew and ride over the shoulder a<6x> on the pawl, and so hold the latter in its depressed position during the rotation of the spindle a. The trigger-rod B, Fig. 2, which is connected to the drum on the spindle a by the cord b, and the firing-rod C, connected to the firing-lever. C<1>, are located in the guard-plate D. A pawl b<3> is pivoted to the end of the rod B so that, when the trigger is released 'and the rod jerked forward, it is rocked into an horizontal position and slides along the surface d' until the shoulder b<4> on the pawl strikes the shoulder c on the rod C and effects the discharge of the gun. The parts are re-set by the recoil and run-out movements of the gun. The cord b is provided with a handle so that the firing.gear may be actuated by hand when necessary.
