Connections Effected By Soldering, Adhesion, Or Permanent Deformation

Abstract
12,171. Edmunds, H., and Dawson, P. June 10. Couplings.-Relates to jointing stranded conductors to lead-sheathed mains. The joint is preserved from the injurious action ot water by filling the stranded conductor where it passes into the lead envelope with an insulating-compoud or with some metal such as lead or solder, or by making the end of the stranded conductor solid so that it can be connected to or form part of the encircling clip on the outer conductor of the main cable. The lead sheath may then be joined to the solid part of the stranded conductor by soldering. This method of coupling is particularly suitable for joining the outer conductor of the feeders to the earthed rail in electric traction systems.
