2027. Wille, A. R. L. Feb. 1. Speed indicators of the centrifugal type are provided with signalling-devices to indicate the speed to persons not on the vehicle. The weights e are pivoted by bolts f to the cover d of a spring barrel c, which is fast on the driving-shaft b. The weights are connected by adjustable pins g to sectors h gearing with the wheel i on the sleeve k, which is loose on the shaft and is attached to the inner end of the spring l. A sleeve m rests on the inclined faces at the end of the sleeve k, and is prevented from turning on the shaft by a pin and slot. A lever o, resting on the sleeve m, is provided with sectors on its forked ends gearing with wheels on a shaft p controlled by a spring 5. The motion of the shaft p is transmitted by bevel-gearing to the pointer r, and is made to raise signal arms w into a vertical position at certain speeds. Disks u, mounted on the shaft, are adapted to engage the tail-ends v of the arms, as shown. The arms may also be made to complete the circuits of coloured electric lamps 7. Tappets are arranged on the shaft p to actuate the hammers of a bell (not shown) on the attainment of certain speeds, and a pin 4 on the rotating sleeve m is adapted to actuate the hammer 3 of another bell when the sleeve is in its highest position. A recording-drum is mounted at one side of the casing, and a pencil is carried by an arm of a rack gearing with a pinion on the shaft p.
