Abstract

Coats and jackets; cutting-out.-Relates to a method of cutting coats and jackets by which the arm may be raised without causing the sleeve to pull the body portion out of shape. Fig. 1 shows the back and Fig. 2 the front of the right-hand side of an overcoat, the two parts being sewn together at and below the points a<1>, b<1>. Extra width, shown by shading-lines, is taken up by folding the edges inwards as shown by dotted lines so that the points a<2>, b<2> coincide, respectively, with the points a<3>, b<3>. The sleeve is attached between the points a<4>, a', b<1>, b<4>, of which a<4>, b<4> are joined at the shoulder. The meeting edges of jacket seams are provided with similar extensions and the sleeve is attached to the edge of each extension, which is folded inwards as before. Instead of the extensions, gussets c, d, Fig. 12, may be sewn in a folded position, both between ordinary back and front parts a, b, and also in the front part b itself, which is cut down to b<6> for the purpose. To ensure the folds forming when the arms are lowered, elastic retaining-straps e, e<1> are attached to the inside of the coat.
