Abstract
26,874. Wrightson, T. G., and Ring- quist, J. M. Dec. 9. Lifts; shoots; loading and unloading; tipping-apparatus.-A combined hoisting and tipping apparatus for coal wagons and the like, comprises a guided platform connected to an electric hoisting-motor and also to balance weights, the arrangement being such that the platform automatically tips in one direction when the balance weights strike against stops, connected to a floating pontoon so as to fall when the pontoon rises and vice versÔ. Fig. 1 shows the platform a connected by ropes c to the motor-driven drum e so that it normally tends to tip in a clockwise direction but is prevented by ropes d attached to balance weights h. A shoot k is carried by a floating pontoon j so as to rise and fall therewith. The stops l are supported by ropes passing over the pulley n. The tension in the rope d is relieved when the balance weights strike against the stops, and the platform tips automatically. The platform a is guided and prevented from tipping in the wrong direction by friction rollers o<2>, o<3> engaging three sides of the vertical pillar p. This apparatus may be used with the conveying and delivering apparatus described in Specifications No. 1191, A.D. 1896, and No. 26,939, A.D. 1898, in which case the feeding-hopper of the conveyer would be mounted on a hoist and in some cases made to carry the stops for the balance weights described above.
