Abstract
26,680. Bruce, J. L. Dec. 7. Liquid-seal valves. -Gas burners provided wit h pilotlights supplied by the pipe u are lighted or extinguished from a distance by increasing the pressurein the mains. A mercury valve which controls the gas supply is operated by the rise and fall of a gas-meter bell G, either directly, as in Fig. 6, or by suitable intermediate mechanism. The form of the valve may be either a displacer plunger P, Fig. 2, immersed in mercury or a small mercury-sealed bell P', Fig. 4. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, when the pressure is raised to a fixed point, gas bubbles through the mercury in the well K<2> and so the bell G' is raised, opening the valve M<2>
