Abstract
19,655. Duffin, H. Sept. 12. Couplings, disconnectible; spigot-andsocket j o i n t s.-A coupling for hose and other pipes consists of two metal castings each having an end adapted to receive the hose pipe. The socket B, Figs. 1 and 2, has formed upon its inner periphery four projecting snugs or teeth U, which are provided with inclined faces c towards the mouth of the socket and a square face c<1> upon the back end. These teeth engage with similar teeth upon a flanged collar E by giving the collar a turn. The collar then holds the spigot D in place by pressing on the flanged. The leather packing H, held in place by the nut J on she interior of the socket ensures a tight joint. To prevent the parts from being disconnected, a spring-controlled finger-pin K, having a catch k with an inclined face k<1>, is arranged so that the catch will engage with a tooth upon the collar E when the latter is rotated.
