Abstract

15,952. Berg, K. L. July 18, A.D. 1903, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1901]. Making parts of galvanic batteries; metal, sheet, joining.-Accumulator electrodes are made in the form of perforated conducting - receptacles, in which the active mass is placed. Perforated nickelplated sheet iron is bent into parts a, a<1>, Fig. 3, which are placed together with active material m between them. The part d is bent over, and the edges folded down, as shown in Fig. 5. The parts a, a<1> have top and bottom projections c, Fig. 7, which are cut off to the breadth of the finished receptacle and turned up a little. The two parts a, a<1> may be joined as in Fig. 6, or the receptacle may be in one piece, Fig. 6<a>, and closed as shown. The electrode is subjected to heavy pressure to give it the proper dimensions, and to bring the active mass into close contact with the sides. For attaching a conductor, and for joining several electrodes to form one large one, trough-shaped bars h, h', Fig. 8, are placed over the parts c and bent as shown. The bar h protrudes on one side, and is joined by a screw s to a contact-bar j, which takes up all plates of similar polarity and carries a terminal k.
