Abstract

15,745. Goriainoff, A. July 15. Engines actuated by mixed steam and air.- Relates to steam generators heated by an oxyhydrogen flame, which may supply a mixture of steam and air. Fig. 1 shows one form of sectional boiler, in which a flame tube e, opening downwardly at one end into the water space of the boiler, is provided at the other end with a burner surrounded by a water jacket p. The burner comprises two concentric, annular passages h, g, connected to the hydrogen-supply pipe i and the oxygen-supply pipe j, respectively. A central passage f, the outlet of which is regulated by a spindle, is connected to a water inlet k and to an air inlet l, through which air is forced into the flame tube before igniting the burner. An electric ignition device o is provided opposite the passages g, h. This form of generator is specially applicable to submarine boats, air ships, and the like. In another form of boiler, Fig. 3, the flame tube is closed at both ends and serves both for the generation and the collection of steam. Water from the water space of the boiler is conveyed by the pipe k to the central passage of the burner, so that it is vaporized on entering the flame tube. Water from a water-supply pipe may also be conveyed to the central passage of the burner through the inlet l. In some cases, air may be conveyed through the passage l so as to obtain a mixture of superheated air and steam in the flame tube.
