Abstract

8262. Port, S. J. April 11. Telephones.-In telephone wall or table sets, and in sets for telephone exchange operators, the transmitter receives the sound waves through a "stentor" c<1>, Fig. 4, and the receiver a is fixed, and communicates with ear-pieces through a flexible tube l. Free use of the hands is thus permitted without the attachment of a heavy head-piece to the person. Fig..3 shows a receiver b with a special bell-mouthed cover a covering the diaphragm c. The flexible tube l connects with a Y-shaped fitting to which is secured the suspension fitting j, Fig. 1, and from which branch the light metal or rubber tubes m which terminate in ear pads o and ear loops p. Fig. 7 shows a perforated rubber ear cover t, which serves to cover tho ear and suspend the tube therefrom. A nozzle s enters the ear cavity. The ear loops may be adjustable with respect to the nozzle and ear pad, either the loop carrier or the tube being cranked to bring it into the correct relative position. The tube l may expand into trumpet form at the part where it enters the cover a of the receiver. The cover may be provided with two nozzles, from which proceed two tubes webbed together, which subsequently divide. A single tube and ear piece may be used.
