Abstract
8117. Albert, E. April 8. Drawings to Specification. Electrotype.-Relates to the production of metal matrices for making electrotype printing-plates, especially from wood or zinc blocks, or types &c. liable to injury by the pressure. The thin lead plate to form the matrix is pressed on to the block or types &c., with a soft backing or cushion of paper or other material interposed between the lead plate and the pressing plate or surface. The backing permits the plate to yield or bend under the pressure of the relief parts of the blocks &c., and the matrices may be formed with a low pressure such as will not injure the original plate or block.
