Abstract
11,527. Albert, E. June 1. Electrotype.-Relates to making matrices for copying by electrodeposition printing blocks or formes, autotypes, wood blocks, and the like. When impressing an original block A into soft metal such as lead to produce a matrix, a hard material such as an iron plate C is placed between the lead plate B and the platen D of the press. The under surface of this iron plate is grooved or corrugated, the grooves being in straight or curved parallel lines or crossing at any angle or irregular like a grain or stipple. The grooves may be formed directly on the platen or cylinder of the press. If formed on a cylinder, they are preferably diagonal as shown in Fig. 6. When the grooves consist of parallel lines, two impressions may be made, the positions of the original and lead plate relatively to the platen being changed. A sheet of soft elastic material E may be placed between the lead and the iron plate.
