Abstract

3432. Justice, P. M., [Pressed Prism Plate Glass Co.]. Feb. 11. Windows; daylight reflectors.-Figs. 1, 10, 11, 12, and 13 show vertical sections, Fig. 6 a back view, and Fig. 7 a perspective view of different types of prismatic lights. One face of the light is plane, as shown at n, Figs. 1, 10, and 11, while the other is composed of obtuse-angled prisms, the incident face s of each prism is transparent, so that light is refracted to the face n, and is there totally reflected to the other prism face r, which, being covered with silver, enamel, on the like, reflects it to the transparent face n, emerging nearly horizontal, as at 1, 1<a>, 1<b>, 1<c>, Fig. 1. The outer and inner reflecting-surfaces r may be parallel as shown in Fig. 1 ; inclined to one another, as shown in Fig. 12 ; both convex, as shown in Fig. 11 ; both concave as shown in Fig. 13; or, one plane and the other concave. As shown in Fig. 11, the light consists of two plates N', N<2>, the intermediate space being occupied by a transparent material having nearly the same refractive index as the glass of the plates. In the type shown in Fig. 12, the plates N, Q are separated by an air film, and the plate N is built up of a series of bars joined by a transparent material, or by fusing. The plate Q, Fig. 13, has a number of convex ribs r<1>. In all these types the prism face r may consist of a number of auxiliary prisms, Figs. 6 and 7, running across the face of the main prisms at a right-angle or otherwise.
