Handles, door etc.; handles, attaching; escutcheons, keyhole. - Relates to handles, especially such as are used for furniture and the like, which are made in three distinct parts, namely, a handle proper, a bracket or brackets, and a back-plate. The brackets are provided with bases at rightangles to the part in which the handle is swung and are secured to the back-plate by screws or other means. In some cases, the brackets are T-shaped, thus providing bases on both sides of the projecting parts, the bases being imperforate and secured by the clamping action of the backplate ; or the base of the bracket may be discshaped, the projecting part being, if desired, stamped or pressed out of the substance of the disc. When a single bracket is employed, the back-plate may be provided at its upper part with a keyhole slot, so as to form an escutcheon to a keyhole, and, if desired, the base of the bracket may be carried upwards and slotted to form a backing for the keyhole of the base-plate. The back-plate is cut with a single horizontal slot, and the bracket is formed of a strip of metal, bent round the handle to form an eye, and is secured by screws or other means. In the form shown in Fig. 26, the base c<1> of the bracket d is fixed on the front of the back-plate b by a screw e, and part of the base c<1> is stamped to form two spikes or tongues c', which are driven into the article of furniture a. The back-plate may be formed with a vertical slot, through which projects a perforated bracket the base of which is secured to the backplate by a screw, the handle being split and a pin passed through the two ends thereof and through the perforation in the bracket. In the form shown in Fig. 32, the strip of metal forming the bracket c is bent to form a socket, into which is fitted the end of a transversely-perforated latch spindle or the like f. A pin d<2> is passed through the ends of the handle d, the socket in the bracket c, and the perforation in the spindle f. The back-plate b is fixed to the article independently of the bracket c, which may thus turn with the handle and the latch spindle.
