IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED ROSE AND ESCUTCHEON.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 211,808, dated January 28, 1879; application filed September 11, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT WADSWORTH, of Hohokus township, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Manufacture of Key-Holes and Escutcheons for Doors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the drawings hereto annexed, in which- Figure 1 is a front, and Fig. 2 a rear, view of my improved device; and Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views of the sliding key-hole plate.
My invention consists in making the keyhole adjustable to the escutcheon by placing it in a separate piece.
A is intended to represent an escutcheon and rose combined, having instead of a keyhole a rectangular opening, 0. The key-hole is placed upon a separate piece, B, which is somewhat longer than the opening 0, and fits into a depression in the back of the escutcheon. As the piece B is made to slide up or down, the key-hole can be placed in any desired part of the opening 0. On the back of the piece B are cast two little pointed projections, at a, which, when driven into the wood of the door, will hold the key-hole plate firmly in position.
It will be readily seen that by means of this invention it becomes possible to use the same rose and escutcheon with locks of different sizes.
I claim as my invention- A key-hole escutcheon wherein the key-hole is contained in a second and separate piece, which is made adjustable to the rest of the escutcheon, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. 1
