IMPROVEMENT IN HANDLE-PLATES FOR DOOR-LATCHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,862, dated May 13, 1873; application filed April 1-2, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK 001mm, of New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented an Improvement in Handle-Plates for Door-Latches, of which the following is a specification:
Latches for doors have been made with a plate having a handle attached thereon, and with a projecting thumb piece above such handle. It is usual, in latches thus constructed, to employ a separate escutcheon, screwed to the face of the door; but these escutcheons, being small, are liable to get loose, and are difficult to securely attach or properly locate with reference to the key-hole of the lock.
My invention is made for obviating these difficulties; and consists in a handle-plate and escutcheon-plate in one piece of metal combined with a bow-handle and thumb-lever.
1n the drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation of said plate and escutcheon, and Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same partially in section.
The handle-plate a is extended in one piece to form the escutcheon b to the key-hole c, and the bow-handle d is attached to this plate, and the thumb-lever 0 passes through a mortise in the plate above the handle.
This device is a new article of manufacture.
I claim as my invention The handle-plate a and escutcheon b made in one piece of metal, and receiving the bowhandle d and thumb-lever e, as set forth.
