Abstract

1362. Wolfensberger, A. Jan. 19. Looms for weaving two fabrics in parallel planes. The warps for the two fabrics pass, from separate warp beams, through upper and lower eyes in the same or separate healds, and the fabrics are wound upon upper and lower cloth beams l, m. Picking-motions.-The shuttles d, e are simultaneously picked from opposite sides of the loom by means of picking-sticks c which are simultaneously drawn inwards by links h<4>, connected to levers h<2> mounted on rock-shafts h. The shafts h are partially turned by means of tappet-plates h<1>, keyed to them, and acted upon by pairs of rollers g<3>, mounted on parallel cross-arms g<2> on the picking- shaft g. The picking-sticks are swung outwards before the shuttles have crossed the sheds, by a spring h<6>. Shuttle-races.-The upper shuttle-race A is constructed of two rails p, p', Fig. 4, covered with a soft and smooth lining, and placed parallel to the lower shuttle-race B. The rails are separated by a slot p<2> through which the lower fabric and warp threads may be inspected, so that small repairs in the warp may be easily made. If a large number of lower warp threads break, the entire race A may be removed. For this purpose, the race is made in the form of a rectangular frame, carrying at each end a projecting slide or plate s which is adapted to engage a grooved rail t, projecting forwardly from each upper shuttle box b<2>. A catch u locks the slide s to the rail t. The rear rail p<1> is placed a short distance from the reed b<1>, to permit the reed to vibrate without abrasion.
