Abstract

25,749. Hicks, J. M. Nov. 25. Stopper capsules, bottle etc.; sealing bottles &c.-Relates to means for stoppering vessels under pressure. Reference is made to Specification No. 9966, A.D. 1903. A cap B is formed with indents G adapted to engage under a beading formed on the bottle neck. Grooves are cut in the neck to allow the cap to be placed in position, and it is then partially rotated so as to engage the beading, the rotation being limited by an indent in the upper part of the cap working in a recess in the lip of the bottle neck. A stopper or cork is compressed in the nose of a bottling- machine, as shown in Fig. 6, and forced down into the bottle neck, where it expands under the flange of the cap. The internal pressure of the contents forces the cork tightly against the cap, and so seals the bottle. To open the bottle, the cap is removed, and the internal pressure forces the stopper out. The cap B may be formed with a downwardlyextending flange inside the bottle neck ; or, it may be formed without such flange.
