Abstract
25,150. Honold, G. Nov. 18. Magneto-electric machines.-Relates to generators for igniting in internal-combustion engines. An armature c revolves within the four pole-pieces b, around which are placed the stationary armature windings a, the pole-pieces being connected to the permanent horse-shoe magnet a. The armature c is made slightly wider than the air gaps as shown in Fig. 1. Since the pole-pieces placed diagonally are of the same polarity, the current in the windings D is reversed four times during each revolution. This arrangement may be used for igniting the charges in four-cylinder internal-combustion engines, the speed of the ignition apparatus being the same as that of the engine. The arrangement may be modified as shown in Fig. 7, the armature oscillating instead of making complete revolutions and the winding surrounding the lower pole-pieces may be dispensed with.
