23,408. Killen, E. B. Oct. 29. Disc wheels; axle-boxes; felloes or rims; hubs.- Wheels for velocipedes, motor cars, and other vehicles are formed with pneumatic hubs. In the form shown in Fig. F, the axle-box D is provided with an outer wood or like ring on which is rigidly secured the hub C<4>, having two side flanges C<2> and an intermediate shaped piece C of wood or other material. The tyre E' is cunnected to a rim E which is attached, by means of side rings E<2>, to the outer periphery of a hollow metal ring A, to the inner periphery of which the beaded edges of a cover B enclosing a pneumatic tube are secured by means of side rings B<2>. The cover may be connected to the side flanges C<3> by flaps B<3>, and to the piece C by metal strips C', Fig. D'. When the wheel is used as a driving-wheel, a toothed pinion or the like A' is secured to one side of the hollow metal ring A so as not to be rigidly attached to the hub.
