Abstract

21,482. Bowen, r. E. W. Oct. 6. Explosives.-Nitro-cellulose solutions are mixed with powdered ammonium perchlorate, a little vaseline or similar body added, the plastic material converted into sheets, and these, when dry, into grains &c. The proportions preferred are ammonium perchlorate 25-33 parts, and gelatinized nitro-cellulose 75-66 parts. Small quantities of carbon or other organic body, aluminium, magnesium, or mixture of these may be added to raise the ignition temperature, and ammonium used to lower it. In all cases the grains may be coated with plumbago.
