To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Cmusrnx J OHANNES STAUTSBOLL LUNDSGAARD and KAJ Tomas HERBST, subjects of the King of Denmark, residing at Vejen, Denmark, and Braband, Denmark, respectively, have invented new and useful Improvements in Explosive Materials; and we do herebydeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The object of the invention is'to provide an explosive which-has a high explosive power and a high degree of stability which advantageously may be used for any military or civil purpose where explosives are employed.
Another object of the invention is to provide an explosive of the kind described which which shall be substantially insensible against moistness.
A further object of the invention is to provide a detonator containing our new explosive.
With these and other objects in view the explosive consists of or comprises a erchlorate of a methyl-substituted ammonium compound.
It is a well known fact that eflicient and stable explosives can be produced by the action of perchloric acid or perchloric compounds upon cyclic ammonium compounds. It has also been tried to produce perchlorates of alifatic amino compounds, VIZ, ethylenediamine and diclyan-diamine, for explosive purposes, but so'far as we are aware these substances have not been used in large scale due to their hygroscopic character and high costs of production. It has now been found in practice that eflicient and stable explosives can be obtained by the action of perchloric acid or perchloric compounds upon methylamine, dimethyl-amfine, trimethyl-amine,
tetramethyl-ammonium or compounds con tainin one or more of said substances, where y the corresponding perchlorates are formed. Said perchlorates are rather insensible against moistness except the perchlorate of dimethyl-amine. Thus the perchlorate of methyl-amine certainly is freely soluble in water, but it is only slightly hygroscopic, while the perchlorate of tetramethyl-ammonium dissolves with diiliculty in water. Moreover these substances are Specification of Letters Patent.

Said substance may be produced, say by neutralizing dilute perchloric acid by a solution of methylamin and subsequent vaporization and crystalliza tion. It is found in practice that 0.25 g. of
