Disinfecting, trays.-A case or capsule having a perforated cover and containing a volatile disinfectant is attached to surgical instrument cabinets and trays, or may be adapted to act as a cover, to telephone mouthpieces, or may be used to sterilize casks for containing alimentary products. Fig. 1 shows the application of the invention to a sterilizer for surgical instruments &c. The cap or receptacle d containing disinfectant material i is formed with an indent e upon which a perforated lid h is secured by a screw f. The cap is screwed on to a boss projecting from the bottom of the tray b which is provided with a grating k and a tightly-fitting lid m. Fig. 3 shows the application of two such caps d<1>, d<2> to a cabinet for surgical instruments, bandages, dressings, &c., and Fig. 4 shows the cap arranged as a cover to the mouthpiece u of a telephone.! In a modification applied to trays or cases for surgical instruments, the receptacle is supported on a shelf in the tray, or is formed of sufficient size to fit into the tray as a lining. The bottom of the receptacle may carry a water chamber for moistening the disinfectant, the water being admitted by unscrewing the screw f a sufficient distance to uncover an opening in a tube communicating with the water chamber.
