Abstract

14,209. Jeffreys, E. A. June 25. Mechanical toys; walking toys; bells.-Relates to a mechanical toy which walks or waddles when drawn along by a string. A toy dog, Fig. 1, or like animal, has a stamped sheet-metal body and legs a, a', b. The fore legs b are preferably rigid with the body, and are mounted on a spindle d eccentrically connected with rollers c, so that as the rollers rotate the figure is lifted from opposite sides alternately. The rear portion of the body moves forward under the action of a spring or counterweight upon the curved legs a, a', which are independently pivoted to the body, the legs a, a' alternately being in contact with the ground, so that the animal moves forward with a waddling motion. The fore legs may be pivoted to the body, and motion imparted to them by cranks, or other mechanism. Bells and other devices may be attached to the figure.
