Abstract

13,560. Hewes, J. June 17. Sewage, treating ; precipitating; calcining ; manures.-Sewage is pumped from the pump e into the tank o, whence it is run off through valves c alternately to inclined settling-tanks a. The liquid passes over weirs j, k and through the tank i, in which it is mixed with Crich lime and soot as precipitant. The sludge is drawn off through doors g to drying-sheds f and incinerated in retorts, preferably arranged as described in Specification No, 5153, A.D. 1885. The ashes may be mixed with the ammoniacal water from the tank i and used as manure, or with lime to form a precipitant for sewage.
