Abstract
11,410. Mackey, W. M. May 31. Foul waters, treating; treating with reagents; settling; filtering.-Dye-water or similar effluent is forced by a pump 10 from an averaging- or container-tank 1 through pipes 2 to an inclined cylindrical settling-tank 3. The pump supplies water by valved pipes 15 to vessels 12 containing milk of lime or other chemical, a regulated amount of which is thus forced down the pipe 11 to a point in the tank 1 near to the pipe 2. The precipitate formed by the mixture of effluent and chemical comes into contact with previously-formed precipitate, which is kept in agitation at the lower end of the cylinder 3. Clarified effluent leaves by the pipe 4 and may be passed upwards through woodcharcoal or other light filtering-material confined between grids 8 in the receptacle 5.
