Abstract

13,365. Field, B. K. June 15. Cylinders and jackets, draining,- cylinders, relief valves for; valve chests and casings, draining; valves for preventing back pressure on piston.- Valves c, e, f, Fig. 2, the second opening to the atmosphere, and the third hemispherical and opening through the second to the atmosphere, are arranged inside a chamber d, Fig. 2, in communication with the valve-chest g, Fig. 1, so as to admit of draining or relieving pressure either in the valve-chest or in the cylinders a, Fig. 1, through the passages g<1>, b. The arm f attached to the valve f secures the opening of the latter when either of the valves c rises to admit fluid. The draining may also be effected by the engineer by means of a piston i, the rod k of which rests against the spindle of the valve e. On admitting steam into the pipe l, the valve m is blown against the face m<1>, and the central valve e is raised by pressure on the piston i, falling again when steam is cut off, the waste and condensed steam escaping through the passage o as the valve m falls away from the face m<1>. Fig. 4 shows a modified form, in which the valve f is omitted, the valve e being opened by fluid pressure beneath the piston i by the operation of the valve c<1> at the same time that the valve c is lifted.
