Abstract
13,287. Boulding, G. R. June 13. Hubs. - Wheels mounted so as to be capable of swivelling on their axles are described in connection with a method of steering power - driven vehicles. Fig. 1 shows a plan of the arrangement, Fig. 2 a section along the line 2-2, Fig. 4 a section along the line 4-4, and Fig. 3 a section along the line 3-3. The fixed vehicle axles carry boxes 12, which are held in position by the collar 15 and loosely connected by the rods 14. The front wheels have speciallyconstructed hubs as shown in Fig. 2. The spherical head 18 contains grooves 19 which, by means of the bevelled dogs 20, turn the wheels during forward motion, but slip past them when reversed. This arrangement prevents slipping on curves, as the two front wheels may have different velocities. The vehicle is steered by the lever 29 which is attached through the joint 28 to the ring 24. On the boxes 12 of the front axle are mounted rotary discs 22 which engage with convex walls 23<a> in the grooves 23 formed in the rings 24. This arrangement allows the wheels to turn independently of rings 24 but, when the ring is slued, the wheels must move correspondingly.
