Abstract
657. Bernhardt, O. T. Jan. 11. Motor road vehicles.-In order to enable the steering-wheels of a motor car to be used also as driving-wheels, the driving-shaft C, Fig. 1, is connected to the hub e through a universal joint g placed at the vertical swivelling-axis of the wheel. The ball joint works in a socket formed in the end of the fixed or bearing-axle a, and pivoted upon the pins x, which are formed upon this axle, is a swivel c, Fig. 3, the two parts of which are held together by the ball bearings d supportiog the hub e. The weight of the vehicle is thus transmitted from the bearing-axle a through the swivel c and ball bearings d to the hub e, so that no weight is borne by the driving-axle itself. The steering-link is connected to a lug formed on the swivel c.
