Abstract

2798. Morrison, C. Feb. 5. Trouser protectors; trouser clips.-Relates to a trouser protector or mud guard which is permanently or temporarily secured to a boot or shoe. A plate a, Fig. 2, is fixed at a convenient point above the heel, and is provided with lugs b to carry the pivoted flap c which nurmally lies against the rear of the boot or shoe but may be turned up to project out rearwardly from the buot or shoe to support the trousers bottom. The flap is retained in the projecting position by a spring catch d, which engages the inner extremity of the flap, and a spring may be provided to secure the flap in the inoperative position. A trouser clip, for cyclists, combined with the protector consists of two forked or looped spring steel clips f, Fig. 4, pivoted at either side to the plate a to lie in grooves or recesses g when not in use, where they may be secured by pins or catches. When in use, the clips are turned up, as shown, the upper ends interlocking by means of projections and indentations. Fig. 9 shows the protector adapted also as a clip. In this case, two spring catches h, j are used, the spring j to support the flap, as shown, as a protector, and the spring h to co-operate with the flat-sided nose e<1> in supporting the flap in the vertical position as a clip. The flap c and the plate a may be made of vulcanite, celluloid, tin, brass, german silver, or other material, and may be covertd with leather or otherwise treated to render them sightly in appearance.
