Abstract

631. Ogilvie, G. S. Jan. 9. Tyres, elastic other than pneumatic; felloes or rims.-In wheels for motor and other vehicles, the tyre consists of an outer rim which has a limited radial and circumferential movement relative to the felloe, and is separated therefrom by elastic cushions or metal springs. The felloe A, Figs. 1 and 4, on which is preferably arranged an iron or steel band B, is surrounded by a separate outer rifu of U-shaped section formed of segments E, G, and C, and a wooden, steel, or other tread X. The segments are secured together by screws and by projections on the segments C fitting holes in tne segments G. Elastic balls H are interposed between the outer rim and the felloe, aud mution is communicated between these parts through elastic balls I, arranged between bolts K on the felloe and cross-pieces M, Fig. 5, which connect the segments G on both sides of the wheel. The bolts and cross-pieces have elastic buffers L, N, respectively, and the tread is bolted to the crosspieces. In a modification, a band c, Figs. 12 to 14, is loosely mounted over an iron or other rim b on the felloe a. The separate outer rim comprises a wooden ring d with the tread f and the side rings g secured thereto. The elastic cushions e are preferably rubber rollers. The rings d, g and the tread f may be in sections, and the tread may be of channel section to take an elastic cushion. Driving-stops h on the felloe work between stops k, l bolted to the side rings ; these stops may be fitted with rollers or faced with rubber, leather, or the like. The stops h and band c are recessed to permit of the movement of the latter relative to the felloe.
