Abstract
621. Brachhausen, G. A. Oct. 18, A.D. 1902, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1907]. Gas burners.-Relates to means for regulating the flow of gas to gas burners. The tubular body A of the regulator has an internal thread at its lower end for attachment to the gas pipe, and an external thread to receive a sleeve B, which may carry the mantle rod or like fixture. The bore of the body A above the thread is contracted.or tapered, and has a cap or cross-plate A<6> at the top. A slit A<8> in the plate is arranged so as to cross at right-angles a slit A<7> in the tapered upper portion of the body A. A regulating-sleeve C screwed on to the body A has a contracted portion C<2> adapted for engagement with the upper part A<5> of the piece A. The inner wall C<3> of the upper part of the contracted portion A<5> is at right-angles to the plate A<6>. On screwing the sleeve C down, the slits A<7>, A<8> are gradually closed, thus diminishing the orifice for the escapr of gas. In a modification, the contracted portion of the tube A is concave and its upper part cylindrical, the outer edge of the plate A<6> being bevelled and engaged by a ridge at the upper part of the sleeve, which is screwed upwards when it is desired to close the slits. Instead of the body A of the regulator being fixed, it may be movable, and the sleeve C fixed.
