Abstract

494. Reichwald, A., [Krupp, F.]. Jan. 8. Field carriages. -Relates to cars for transporting siege guns. Fig. 1 shows the transporting-car in full lines, and the gun breech 0 and carriage trail D in dotted lines. Fig. 6 shows the gun transferred from its carriage to the transporting - car, and the carriage connected as a trailer. The centre pole A of the car is rigidly connected to the back wheels B, and is pivoted at a to the fore - carriage C. Cross - beams J, J<1> on the pole A carry loosely the gun carrier K, which has the same cross-section as the gun cradle, and is pivoted at one end to the pole A at k<2> while its other end can be traversed by the crank q. The car is backed against the gun to be transported, and the trail D is raised by the screw G, rotated by the crank e, until the trail grips the arms U, S on the car, whereupon the carrier K is adjusted laterally by the crank q to bring it into line with the gun cradle. The gun is then disconnected from its recoil apparatus, and is drawn upon the car by the screw L, which is rotated through gearing by the crank m. The gun with its trailing carriage is then ready for transport.
