Abstract

27,458. Novet, C. Dec. 12. Jacquards. - A jacquard, which enables two picks of weft to be inserted with the aid of one and the same pattern card, has a series of needles 2, 3, 4, 5, with their lifting-hooks G, 7, 8, 9, and a series of needles 25, 26, connected by springs 34, 35 to oscillating levers 28, 29, The lifting- knives 10, 11, 12, 13 are pivoted to a verticallymovable frame or griffe and connected to rods 32, 33, as shown in Fig. 1. The upper ends of the levers 28, 29, respectively, are formed with inclined surfaces 30, 31. When the pattern card 1 is pressed against the needles, it may be assumed that needles 4, 5 are pushed back, and needles 2, 3 remain stationary ; then, during the next lift of the knives, the hooks 6, 7 are raised. Further, let it be assumed that the card has also pushed back the needle 26 ; then the corresponding lever 28 will have been oscillated into the position shown in Fig. 1, as soon as the rod 33 has been raised. During the ensuing descent of the griffe, the rod 33 is pushed towards the left hand by the inclined surface 31, and the knives 11, 13 are turned into their inoperative positions ; consequently, at the next lift, only the hook 6 will be raised. In a modification, the needles 25, 26 and the levers 28, 29 are not used, but the rods corresponding to rods 32, 33 are actuated by mechanism of any suitable kind. The lifting-knives are hooked at their lower ends for engaging with hooks or tringles attached to intermediate parts of the lifting-hooks. In a second modification, two pattern cylinders and an ordinary arrangement of needles, hooks, and lifting-knives are employed. One cylinder supports the cards, and the other having suitably-perforated faces is mounted so as to be independently movable within the card cylinder. In a third modification, there is one pattern cylinder and a selection of the hooks which were lifted for the first pick is made by means of rotary catches connected to a horizontally-reciprocating rod and arranged to press against the hooks. In a fourth modification, the selection of the hooks for the two picks is effected by means of two sets of needles, one set controlled by the pattern cylinder and the other set by any suitable mechanism.
