A telescopic or other sighting - apparatus is kept in a vertical position by being suspended from a bracket 13 by trunnions 1, the axis of suspension being kept parallel to the axis of the gun by a cam-curve frame and roller, as described in Specification No. 25,585, A.D. 1901, or by a parallel motion. The telescope is fitted with two levels 3, 5 for indicating when the telescope is horizontal. The bubbles of the levels are brought into the field of view by a reflector 4, and the gun fired when the image of the bubble of the level 3 touches the top of the reflector. The angle between the axis of suspension (parallel to the axis of the gun) and the line of sight is adjusted for the particular range by the head 11 bearing a screw 12 gearing with a rack on the end of the pivoted limb 8 which carries the telescope.
