Abstract

Sights.-Relates to sighting-apparatus wherein the sight-bar is pivoted to the carriage in such a way that the gun can be sighted at all angles of elevation without the gunner unduly altering his position. According to the invention, which is specially adapted for large-calibre automatic guns carried by aeroplanes, the sight arm or bracket is pivoted to the carriage at a point which is some distance behind, and at a lower level than, the gun trunnions, and mechanism is provided whereby the sight-line is moved by the gun-elevating gear through the same angle as the gun. The sight-bar may have two parallel lines of sight, the gunner using the one he finds more convenient. The sight is shown applied to the mounting described in Specification 127,648, [Class 92 (i), Ordnance &c. mountings]. The sight-bar C is carried by the arm or bracket B, which is pivoted at b behind and below the gun trunnions. The arm B carries a segment b<1> with which gears a worm B' on a shaft B<2> coupled with the elevating-shaft of the gun. The bar C carries a foresight having two points C<1>, and a backsight having two apertures C<2>.
