13,911. Southerton, J. F. June 19. Steelyard apparatus.-The beam or steelyard proper A has at one end an elbow B carrying a short upper beam B<1>. A bridle C, fitted to the upper beam, carries knife-edge bearings D for the suspending-shackle E, and bearings F for a shackle G carrying the load hook. The main poise K has a handle, and can be slid through the hook shackle to the load side of the fulcrum, so that the ordinary balance weight is dispensed with. The upper beam is graduated, and has a small poise J for fine adjustment.
