Abstract

13,575. Rippeth, T., and Greaves, T. June 16. Brakes.-Relates to a clutch for connecting the hand-lever to the weigh-shaft for applying the brakes to the wheels of railway trucks, wagons, and the like. The boss D, Fig. 3. of the handlever H is mounted loosely on the weighshaft G, and rides on a washer F pinned to the weigh-shaft. The boss is formed with a conical recess r having teeth or cogs which gear with similar teeth on the loose piece A. When the lever H is depressed, a tooth or lug l, Fig. 2, forming part of the piece A, Fig. 3, engages with a similar lug l<1> on the clutch B, thus applying the brakes. On raising the lever H, it may be pushed back, the boss D passing over the washer F and compressing the spring E. The piece A is thus liberated from the boss D, and is brought into its normal position by a spring C, Fig. 2.
