Abstract
11,069. Sugg, W. T. May 14. Incandescent gas lamps. -Relates to mantles and mantle supports for incandescent gas lighting. The mantle F is attached at the top to a ring of asbestos thread of considerably larger diameter than the usual ring, reducing the puckering, and is carried by a domeshaped support or cap E, which is recessed to receive the point of a peg D provided with a tapped socket C for attachment to a screwed boss on the burner B. The cap E is provided with lateral holes G and a downwardly-curved flange H, and saw-cuts are made across the flange to the holes G, to allow for expansion and contraction. The peg and cap are formed from a mixture of steatite dust, fireclay, and a binding material such as sodium silicate.
