Abstract
9095. Jackson, J. E. April 19. Tapping.-Casks, barrels, and other vessels are tapped by an arrangement such as that shown in Figs. 1 and 5. Within the threaded bushing B surrounding the taphole is a hollow conical valve A having perforations, as shown, and actuated by a spring E which tends to draw the valve to its seating to close the taphole. The tap C, shaped as shown, serves, on being screwed to the brushing B to push back the valve to permit of the withdrawal of the liquid. A screwed cap G, which is protected by the chime of the cask &c. is used to cover the taphole while the cask &c. is in transit.
