Abstract
23,411. Healy, J. T. Oct. 10. Tapping.-A socket a, fitted or formed in the cask or adapted to be secured over the taphole, has an aperture a<1> and a larger screwed aperture a<2> to receive a screwed gland b having a hole b<1> for the valve stem d and a conical hole b<2> for the head d<1> of the valve stem. The tap is inserted by striking the part d<4>, thus removing the cork in the bung-hole or in the aperture a<1> of the socket. The pressure of the liquor moves the head d<1> into engagement with the conical hole in the gland. A packing c may be provided.
