Abstract
9012. Boyd, T. A., and Boyd, J. & T. April 18. Ring and traveller frames.-The material is drawn from condenser bobbins 1 and passed through traversing guides 4 to delivery rollers 5, whence it passes through one or more pairs of drawing- rollers 6, 7 to the guide 8 and spindle, the axis of which is in line with the nip of the delivery rollers 5: One or both of the rollers of each pair of drawing-rollers are formed with depressions 7<1>, so that, as the rollers revolve, the thread is intermittently released so as to allow the twist to run up to the delivery rollers. The time during which the thread is released is determined by the extent of the depression, when only one roller is formed with depressions, or by the relative positions of the depressions when these are formed in both rollers of a pair. When two or more pairs of rollers are used, the thread is released by all of them simultaneously, the several pairs of rollers being all driven with the same angular velocity, but being made of different diameters in order to effect the drawing of the thread. When the thread breaks between the drawing and delivery rollers, the thread from the latter is caused to be lapped on to a rotary lap roller 24 supported in the position shown. To facilitate piecing up, the pressing-rollers 7 are arranged in pairs at the ends of a short axle 22, as shown in Fig. 6, so that the end can be brought from the spindle up to the delivery rollers and there joined to the thread from the latter, without the necessity of first passing it through the drawing-rollers. During piecing-up, the spindle is held stationary by a brake 16 which is connected by means of a spring rod 17 with a hand-lever 19, Fig. 5.
