Air, supplying, methods of; forced ventilation.- In ventilating and cooling buildings, such as hospitals &c., a cold-air pipe descends from a cooling- chamber c, Fig. 1, into which fresh air is forced, through a pipe E, by a fan F. Both pipes are fitted with registers G, D at equal levels, by which regulated quantities of the air from each pipe are admitted to the compartments A'. The registers are provided with radial arms a connected by rods b secured at the ends to thermostats H, which thus serve to control the registers automatically. The outlets from the pairs of registers at equal levels may lead to single pipes which open into the compartments. The various pipes may be fitted with dampers e, f. Fig. 3 shows a modification, in which the cooling-chamber A is placed underneath. The air is forced by a fan C to the chamber A and pipe B<7>, and also to the pipe D<7>, the air being deflected in regulated quantities along the two routes by a pivoted valve E<7>, the position of which can be suitably regulated. From the pipes B<7>, D<7>, the air enters the mixing-chamber E', through registers f<7>, g<7>, which are automatically controlled by a thermostat F<7>. The outlet from the chamber E<1> is controlled by a register m<7>, which is actuated by the pressure in the chamber through a piston I<7>, lever J<7>, and link r<7>.
