Abstract

20,934. Spetmann, E. 0. Oct. 18. Boat-lowering gear.-Davits of ordinary construction are so pivoted to the side of the vessel that they can be swung outboard if it is desired to lower the boats when the ship is heeled away from the side on which the davits are mounted. The davits a are pivoted at b, and have sliding collars d attached by trunnions f to arms i, which are connected together by cross-pieces g, h, and are hinged to the hull of the ship. A pivoted screw bolt q and a nut p and a shackle n on the cross-piece g normally hold the davit up against the stop s, and the collar d is prevented from sliding by a projection m on a second collar l, which is clamped to the davit by a screw k. When two adjacent davits are mounted in one collar d, as shown in Fig. 3, only one clamping-collar l is required. By unscrewing the bolt p, q and slackening the clamping- screw k, the hinged arms i and the pivoted davits a may be turned outboard, as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 2.
