Measured quantities, delivering.- In an apparatus for drawing - off measured quantities of soda-water or other beverages containing gases, the passage of liquid from a reservoir 23, Fig. 6, to a measuring- vessel 14, having a flexible diaphragm 16, and thence to an outlet 41, is controlled by valves 2, 2<1>, 3, 3<1>, one pair of valves being closed w h e n the others are opened. The measuring- vessel may consist of a cylinder with a reciprocating piston. Two cylinders may be used communicating at the top and containing cylindrical floats carrying conical parts to fit conical seats at the bottom and packing-plates to bear against the ends of nozzles depending from the top. Each compartment of the measuring-vessel 14 may be connected to a cylindrical vessel containing a float carrying a packing-plate to close the end of a nozzle through which the gas evolved by the liquid escapes. Each valve casing 4, Fig. 4, has a packing-membrane 5 tightened by a screw 10 and attached to a conical valve 6 adapted to engage a seat in the inlet 8 which is surrounded by a recessed chamber 12. The inlet 8 may open into a chamber containing a valve pressed against a seat, . on the piece 86, and opened by a stem connected to the membrane 5 and projecting into a recess in the valve. The valves are opened and closed in pairs by levers 43, 44 bearing on their stems 11, connected by a screw 48 and a slot, and pivoted at 45, 46 to spring-pressed sleeves 61. The levers are raised by springs 59 and depressed, and held depressed, by the action of a lever 58, connected by a sleeve to an operating-handle 56, on pressing-pieces 49, carried by the levers 43, and cams 51 adapted to turn in one direction on screws 50 and be returned by springs 52. The levers 43 move in guide-forks 64. The hand-lever 56, Fig. 1, is held in its end positions by the action of a spring 80 on an arm 81 carried by a toothed segment 79 engaging a toothed segment on the hand-lever. The apparatus may be locked normally by a coinfreed apparatus having a locking-slide 66 connected by a pin and slot to the lever 58 and having stops 68, 69, 70 to engage the nose 75 of a locking-lever 73 normally resting against the slide. A coin placed in a hopper 76 passes through a slot 77 in the lever 73, and into one of two slots 72 in the slide, so that, on attempting to move the hand-lever, the coin lifts the locking-lever clear of the stops, and subsequently falls into a till.
