Abstract

17,053. Aerators Ltd., Read, H. V. R., and Campbell, R. H. Aug. 13. Direct gas-pressure apparatus.-In apparatus for drawing-off beer, petroleum, or other liquids by means of compressed gas, of the type having a single cock for simultaneously admitting the compressed gas and allowing the liquid to flow out, a separate valve is fitted to the compressed gas container so as to control the passage of the gas independently of the cock. The valve 2 controlling the supply of gas from the container 1 is operated by a lever 10 pivoted upon a tubular extension of the container, which is free to slide upon a fixed stem having a recess through which the lever passes and against the upper side of which the lever abuts. A spring presses the container and sleeves upwards, but by moving the upper end of the lever towards the containers, the latter is caused to move downwards, whereupon the valve 2 comes into contact with the fixed spindle and is thereby opened. The end of the valve may be provided with a small perforated plug containing a porous material, such as a slice of cane. The compressed gas passes from the valve 2 to a passage 17, 15 and thence through a port 13 in the plug cock 12 to the annular space between the pipes 18, 22, from which it passes to the space above the liquid in the receptacle. The liquid is drawn off from the pipe 22 through ports in the plug cock 12 and delivery pipe 21. A second valve may be provided in the pipe 17 below the valve 2 for the purpose of admitting a definite quantity of gas, namely, that contained between the two valves.
