Rotary machines; cylinder machines with plane printing-surfaces.-Relates to machines for letterpress, lithographic, or other printing, embossing, creasing, and cutting &c. The type formes or dies and cutters &c. are fixed on flat portions 6 of a rotary cylinder 5. There may be two or more of the surfaces 6. The impression cylinder is in sliding bearings 3 operated by rods 22 and cams 23 to press the sheets on to the surfaces 6. The grippers 2 take the sheets from the table 12, and may be operated by a cam 14 to print a fresh sheet on each surface 6, or may be operated to retain a sheet and print it successively in colours &c. on the surfaces 6. For this purpose, the cam 14 is pivoted, and is-moved out of operative position by a lever 15 operated by pins 16, 17 on the cylinder 5. The formes are inked in the required colours by sets of rollers 11 supplied by rollers 10 from the duct rollers 9. The sheets are delivered by a cylinder 13 and fly 18 to the table 21. The fly is operated by a piuion and rack 25 operated by a cam 20. The Provisional Specification states that the machine is applicable for engraved plate, collotype, and other work, for printing envelopes, cards, &c., for printing, cutting, and creasing cardboard box blanks, and for other purposes.
