Abstract
5888. Blackmore, H. S. March 20. Disinfecting.- Relates to means for disinfecting, odorizing, sterilizing, &c. in rooms, closets, urinals, baths, &c. In the application to a water-closet shown in Fig. 2, a vessel 1 containing a suitable disinfectant or aromatizer is closed by a lid 4 provided with an inlet tube 9 leading to the bottom of the vessel and secured by packing-rings &c. 6, 7 as shown, and with au outlet tube 14, similarly secured, which is connected by a coupling 16 with a tube 19 opening into the flush pipe 18 of the closet, so that the flush-water sucks air through the appliance and delivers it, together with the disinfectant &c. carried with it, into the bowl of the closet. The excess of disinfectant &c. escapes into the room, and disinfects &c. the air contained therein. The tube 19 may be provided with a lip 17 to prevent the flush-water from passing back through the tube. In a modification, the tube 19 is inclined, and the lip 17 is dispensed with. The tubes 9, 14 may be provided with non-return valves, and a stop cock may be fitted to the tube 9.
