2588. Boucay, L. July 6, A.D. 1900, [date applied for under Sec. 103 of Patents &c. Act, A.D. 1883]. Stoppers.-A collar D is fixed on the bottle-neck by means of a hinged key K, the stem of which may be notched so that the collar can be tightened to the diameter of the bottle neck; or, the tightening may be effected by a spring blade inside the collar. The collar carries a casing or housing R, in which are pivoted the togglelevers P, C and A, Q, the arms A, C being connected by a link B. The arm Q is pivoted to the metal body G of the stopper, and is connected by the link N' to the two guide-links M, which are pivoted at M<1> to the casing R. The stopper is fitted with a packing- disc H of cork or rubber. The Provisional Specification also states that the stopper contains an internal spring, which presses the packing on and into the mouth of the bottle. The stopper is closed by pressing the operating-lever P into the position shown, and is opened by moving the lever outwards and upwards, this latter movement raising the stopper clear of the mouth of the bottle into the position shown in dotted lines.
